What this office can help with

An Honorary Consul provides local assistance and liaison. Visas, passports and most other formal consular matters for The Gambia are handled by the Embassy of Hungary in Accra, the accredited mission for this country.

Scope

What we do, and what we cannot do

We can

Assist Hungarian nationals in difficulty and notify the Embassy in Accra on their behalf
Provide local guidance to Hungarian citizens and businesses operating in The Gambia
Support trade, investment and institutional contact between the two countries
Represent Hungary at official and cultural events in The Gambia

We cannot

Issue, accept or decide Hungarian or Schengen visa applications
Issue or renew Hungarian passports
Provide legal representation or immigration advice
Pay bills, fines, legal costs or travel expenses
Intervene in Gambian court proceedings or investigations

Visas

Applying at the Embassy in Accra

The Gambia falls within the consular district of the Embassy of Hungary in Accra. There is no Schengen visa application centre in Banjul for Hungary, and no other Schengen state issues Hungarian visas here on Hungary's behalf.

The process, in outline:

Pre-register online and generate an application form carrying a unique QR code.
Upload scanned copies of your supporting documents.
Book an individual appointment — every applicant needs their own, including children.
Attend in person in Accra on the appointment date with printed copies of everything uploaded.

Online submission alone is not sufficient. The application must be lodged in person.

Scholarships

Hungarian government scholarships

Candidates from The Gambia for Hungarian government (Stipendium Hungaricum) scholarships are nominated by the Scholarship Advisory Board of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology; final awards are made in Hungary by the Tempus Public Foundation. This office plays no part in selecting recipients and cannot advise on applications.

Once students have been selected, this office coordinates their visa arrangements with the Embassy in Accra and, where the Embassy requires it, issues a note verbale in support of their applications. If you have been awarded a place and need help with the visa stage, contact us.
