Applying for a Hungarian visa
Hungarian visas — Schengen (type C) and national (type D) — are handled for The Gambia by the Embassy of Hungary in Accra, Ghana. This office cannot accept applications. This is how the process works.
Step by step
- Pre-register online on the Hungarian consular portal. This generates your application form with a unique QR code.
- Upload scanned copies of your supporting documents — PDF preferred, under 5 MB each.
- Book an individual appointment at the Embassy in Accra. Every applicant needs their own appointment, including children.
- Attend in person on the appointment date with the printed application form bearing the QR code and paper copies of every document you uploaded.
- Pay the visa fee at the Embassy by card. Cash is not accepted.
Online submission alone is not enough — the application must be lodged in person in Accra.

Questions and answers
Can I apply for a visa at this office in Banjul?
No. The Honorary Consulate cannot accept, process or decide visa applications. All applications for Hungarian visas from The Gambia are lodged in person at the Embassy of Hungary in Accra.
How much does a Schengen (type C) visa cost?
According to the Embassy, the fee is the US dollar equivalent of EUR 90 for applicants aged 12 and over, EUR 45 for children aged 6 to 11, and nothing for children under 6. It is paid by card at the Embassy.
How much does a national (type D) visa cost?
The US dollar equivalent of EUR 110 for every applicant, including children.
When should I apply?
A Schengen (type C) application can be lodged no earlier than six months and no later than 15 days before you travel. A national (type D) application can be lodged no earlier than three months before you travel.
Someone has offered me an appointment for a fee. Is that genuine?
No. Appointments are free of charge. If you are offered one in exchange for a fee, it is a scam.
