Office of the Honorary Consul of HungaryBanjul, The Gambia
About

The Honorary Consulate

A small office representing Hungary's interests in The Gambia, under the Embassy of Hungary in Accra.

An Honorary Consul is appointed by the Hungarian state to represent its interests locally. Hungary has no resident embassy in The Gambia, so this office is its permanent presence here, under the Embassy of Hungary in Accra. The role exists to give Hungary a reliable local presence — someone who knows the country, can act quickly, and can be reached directly.

What the office does

Day to day, the work is liaison. Hungarian nationals in difficulty contact this office and it connects them to the Embassy in Accra. The Embassy, in turn, contacts this office when it needs to reach someone in The Gambia. Alongside that, the office introduces Gambian and Hungarian businesses to each other, supports cultural and academic cooperation, and represents Hungary at official occasions.

What it is not

This is not an embassy and not a career consulate. It has no visa section and issues no travel documents. Where a matter requires formal consular action, it usually belongs with the Embassy in Accra, and the fastest route is usually to go there directly.
