Hungary Brings Scholarship Visa Processing to The Gambia
A special arrangement between the Hungarian Embassy in Accra and the Office of the Honorary Consul enabled ten Gambian scholarship recipients to complete visa processing in The Gambia, eliminating the need for the students to travel to Ghana for the procedure.

Ten Gambian students awarded scholarships to pursue higher education in Hungary were able to complete their visa processing without travelling outside The Gambia, following a coordinated initiative involving the Hungarian Embassy in Accra and the Office of the Honorary Consul of Hungary to The Gambia.
The students received their scholarships under the Stipendium Hungaricum Programme, Hungary’s international higher education scholarship initiative. The programme provides support including tuition, a monthly stipend, accommodation assistance and health insurance while promoting educational exchange between Hungary and partner countries.
Rather than requiring the students to travel to Ghana for consular processing, the Hungarian Embassy in Accra and Honorary Consul Hon. Sir Farimang Saho arranged for Consular Officer Mr. Richard Nobert to travel to The Gambia and conduct the necessary procedures locally.
Ahead of the exercise, the scholarship recipients met at the Honorary Consul’s Office in Bijilo for preparation and document verification. The Honorary Consul spoke to the students about Hungary, the relationship between the two countries and the responsibility accompanying the opportunity to study abroad.
On 10 August, the students returned to the Office for the consular exercise. They received an orientation covering visa and immigration procedures as well as practical information about studying and living in Hungary. Each student subsequently completed biometric registration and submitted the required supporting documents.
Beyond reducing travel costs and administrative inconvenience for the students, the initiative demonstrated how cooperation between the Hungarian Embassy, the Honorary Consulate and Gambian authorities can remove practical barriers to international educational opportunities.
For the students, the exercise represented another important step toward beginning their studies in Hungary and strengthening educational connections between The Gambia and Hungary.
