Hungarian Consular Officer Conducts Visa Processing in The Gambia

The Office of the Honorary Consul of Hungary to The Gambia hosted a special consular processing exercise on Sunday, 10 August 2025, for ten Gambian students preparing to pursue higher education in Hungary.

Mr. Richard Nobert, Consular Officer from the Hungarian Embassy in Accra, travelled to The Gambia for the exercise and was received at Banjul International Airport by representatives supporting the programme before proceeding to his accommodation.

The following morning, the ten scholarship recipients assembled at the Honorary Consul’s Office in Bijilo. Mr. Nobert delivered a detailed orientation covering the visa and immigration process, residence permits, university locations, Hungarian culture, seasonal weather and practical considerations for adapting to life and study in Hungary.

The Honorary Consul, Hon. Sir Farimang Saho, raised questions on behalf of the students concerning welfare, emergencies and communication arrangements. Particular attention was also given to ensuring that the needs and questions of the visually impaired scholarship recipient were addressed during the session.

Following the orientation, each student was processed individually. The exercise included biometric data capture, document collection and verification, with the entire process completed efficiently at the Honorary Consul’s Office.

In his closing remarks, the Honorary Consul expressed appreciation to the Hungarian Embassy, MoHERST and everyone involved in making the exercise possible. A group photograph featuring the students, the Honorary Consul and the visiting Consular Officer marked the conclusion of the day’s activities.

The visit represented an important example of practical cooperation between Hungarian and Gambian institutions in supporting educational opportunities for Gambian students.
